Avoid Cold Temperatures: Cold temperatures can cause vasoconstriction, leading to higher blood pressure readings. Try to measure your blood pressure in a warm and comfortable environment. (This includes avoiding cold beverages)

Relax for Longer Periods: Resting for at least 10 minutes before measuring your blood pressure allows your body to reach a stable baseline. This extra relaxation period helps give you more accurate readings. (Get into a quiet, and relaxing environment)

Diet before measuring: This is common knowledge at first, but many of us are forgetful, so here's a very important reminder to you.

 

If you ate, drank, smoked, or consumed alcohol. Maybe even caffeine within 30 minutes before taking your blood pressure readings, then your numbers are probably inflated. Keep your bladder and stomach empty 30 minutes before your readings for the most accurate results.

Proper Equipment: You’d be surprised how often this can happen. But make sure you have a calibrated, validated, and properly fitting blood pressure cuff. It should be fitted for your exact arm size, not too big or too small.

Proper Cuff Placement: Ensure the blood pressure cuff is placed correctly. It should be positioned directly on the skin, not over clothing, and should fit snugly but not too tightly around the upper arm. Improper cuff placement can give false results. Mind Your Posture: As simple as it may seem, bad posture can screw up your readings. Make sure to sit up straight with your back supported against a chair backrest. Your feet should be flat on the floor, and your legs should not be crossed! Poor posture can affect blood flow and lead to false readings. (Practice good posture beforehand, or buy a posture corrector if needed)

Measure both arms: This is not often talked about. While it is generally recommended to use the same arm for consistency. Measuring blood pressure in both arms on separate occasions can help identify any significant variations.
